Pastoral Counseling Degree Online

An education in Pastoral Counseling is no further away than your computer or your mailbox. The education that used to require you go to and reside in a dorm or apartment for years, run up a lifetime's worth of debt, and struggle for years, can now be as close as your mailbox or your computer.

The coursework and practical applications that will provide you with a professional education are available in several formats.
One format is the more traditional home study version, with textbooks, workbooks, audio cd's, DVD's and so forth.

Newer, and slowly gaining acceptance, are programs that are entirely online. Coursework, exams, the whole package entirely on line.

" Pastoral Counseling typically incorporates some of the valid theories derives from secular counseling and combines these ideas with the truth of the scripture. Prayer, meditation, and following the commandments are just a part of the package that produces results superior to those available by any other method.

Most programs will include the temperament as foundational item. Christian Psychologists discovered that it was possible to accurately analyze human temperaments by the use of an inventory type questionnaire. Dr Timothy LaHaye popularized this idea starting in the 1960's, writing numerous books and articles about the subject. In the 1980's, a pair of Christian PhD educators and counselors set about to refine the process of analyzing temperaments because while they saw significant merit in the system, there were some discrepancies that simply called for further investigation. As a result of their work, they discovered that it takes five major categories to properly define the human temperament instead of the previous four. They also discovered that the temperament is situational.
A person whose temperament is one way in certain areas of life may behave completely differently when faced with different circumstances. Thirdly, they discovered that most people were not simply one temperament or another. Rather, the temperaments blend, resulting in infinitely variable possibilities. Of course, infinite is a little difficult to deal with, so from a practical standpoint, based on the limits of the testing instruments they developed, they ended up with 4913 different possible categorizations for the human temperament.

While this is a large number, it is essentially the fractional application of a matrix of 5 variables 3 levels deep.
In practice, a Pastoral Counselor using this temperament inventory can analyze a temperament with 10-15 minutes, obtaining information that might not be discerned in month of one-on-one traditional counseling.
Efficiencies like this are part of the reason Pastoral Counseling is developing such a good reputation.
